June 2023 Honoree
Sarah gibson, RN
The NICU unexpectedly lost a baby we’ve all taken care of for several months who became family to us. Sarah volunteered to care for this sweet boy, wanting to love on him a few more times, knowing he possibly wouldn’t make it through the night. Sarah provided the best care possible and did everything she could to help him find comfort while he was alive. She also helped his family try to find comfort on one of the worst days of their lives.
Sarah’s advocacy for both her patient and his family has reminded me of why I became a nurse. Not only did she start her shift by saying goodbye to one of our babies, but she also had to take on a new assignment shortly after with a smile on her face, spreading the love, care, and compassion to a new set of babies. Sarah exemplified what it meant to be a NICU nurse and has set an example to us all on the meaning of dedication, compassion, and love. From one NICU nurse to another, your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.
