Sarah Gosnell, Practical Nursing Student

Sarah is an excellent student nurse and patient advocate. She excels in the classroom and the clinical setting. One situation, for example, was when Sarah had walked by a patient's room and the patient looked uncomfortable in bed. This patient was not assigned to Sarah. Sarah then quickly noted that the patient's oxygen was on but the patient's nasal cannula was not on the patient. She then found her clinical instructor and expressed her concern. Sarah and her instructor assessed the patient together. The patient's oxygen saturation was dangerously low without the nasal cannula in place. If Sarah had not been concerned with the patient's comfort, the patient may have been found in a worse situation. Sarah, with her instructor, provided patient education and appropriate care that exceeded what is expected of a student.
