Every day W had Sarah as his nurse, he expressed how lucky he was to have her and how thankful he was for her.
My husband, W, was a patient in the COVID-ICU Unit. Sarah Hansen was assigned to W. W was extremely lonely and missing his family. W does not have a smartphone, so we were unable to see him through Facetime. Sarah set up 1 - 2 times a day with Facetime so we could see him and send our love to him. Sarah would be in the room while we were on Facetime and she would be combing his hair, showing him his gifts we were sending him, and being the compassionate link between him and his family.
Our spirits were so lifted every time we talked to her and felt she understood every one of W's needs and what he needed to hear mentally and physically to recover. Any time we called there to check on W, Sarah always got back to us as soon as she could. Her words of love and support were on every phone call. We know she even came in on one of her days off to work and she took care of W that day.
Every day W had Sarah as his nurse, he expressed how lucky he was to have her and how thankful he was for her. We may not have one specific story of how Sarah demonstrated why she deserves this award, but his story applies to each day she cared for W in the ICU. We will never be able to thank Sarah enough and all of the nurses in the COVID-ICU for being W's "family" for him when his family could not be there for him.
Thank you, Sarah and God Bless You!
