Our father was on a ventilator for 9 days. We were exhausted and so worried about our dad being comfortable. The day our dad passed away Sarah Heiney was his nurse.
We had a hospice consultation on this day, and even thought Sara was very busy taking care of her assigned patients, she made it a priority to attend as much of the consultation as possible. This meant so much to me and my family that even though she did not have to attend, she wanted to.
We believe this is a trait of a DAISY Nurse. Not only that, but during our dad's final hours, Sarah was right there with us. My sister and I feared the unknown and it felt like she was holding our dad's hand and ours thru each step.
Sarah's attentiveness to my father, my sister and I, was beyond exceptional. Her communication was unbelievable and if she was not in the room with us, we knew where she would be or who the person to call for help was.
Because of this DAISY Nurse, my father in his final hours was comfortable and free from pain. He passed away peacefully and with dignity. We are so grateful for Sarah and for her going above and beyond.
Sarah did not have to do all of this, but she did. She did not have to listen to Bon Jovi with us, but she did. She did not have to ask us multiple times if we were ok and comfortable, but she did. She did not have to be so tender and loving to our father, but she did. She did not have to sit in his room and do her charting to make us feel comfortable, but she did.
Thank you, Sarah, so very much. Words can never express our gratitude for all you have done. Your future patients and their families will be very lucky to have you at their bedside.
