Sarah always demonstrates outstanding compassion for her patients and their families. Sarah came to me one day on a mission to provide her patient's daughter with a birthday party here at the hospital. Her request of me was "Do you have any candy for the party? Do you have any presents we could give this little girl?" Candy was provided as well as a couple of teddy bears left over from Take Your Child to Work Day. Without Sarah's quick thinking and action this patient most likely would have left AMA with a very nasty infection that needed a second surgery that day.

Sarah had a patient with a severe infection and was requiring several days in the hospital for IV antibiotics. The patient was quite adamant about leaving because it was her daughter's birthday and she had missed her birthday the year before due to unforeseen circumstances and was not going to miss two in a row. Sarah was able to not only convince the patient to stay so she could receive the necessary IV antibiotics and an emergency surgery that very night, but also throw a birthday party for the patient's daughter.

Sarah coordinated with staff and pulled off a great birthday for the patient's daughter. Another employee had an ice cream cake for their birthday that they donated and balloons were found as well as some candy and a teddy bear. The staff joined in singing "Happy Birthday" to the patient's daughter.
