Sarah Lyerla

Sarah is a diligent and empathetic nursing student. I have noticed throughout our clinical rotation at Children's Hospital of Michigan that she truly cares about her patients and has a very strong work ethic. Her attention to detail is prominent throughout her work. In particular, she cared for a child with very complex healthcare needs and did so with empathy. She stayed very well organized, which can be difficult for this type of patient. There were many interventions that needed to be performed, some of which the student had never done before. She was enthusiastic to learn and care for this child. The complexity of this patient made for a very busy day, both mentally and physically, but she worked through it with confidence. On top of all of her nursing duties, she set aside time to brush the child's hair and even made hair ties from socks. Sarah is confident, humble, and intelligent. She goes above and beyond to figure out what her patients need based on their underlying condition and can recognize changes in her patient's status quickly. Any unit would be honored to have her work with them as a nurse after she graduates.
