I had the awesome privilege to have Sarah as my nurse. Little did I know then the impact that she would have on my life at that moment - and continued until I was discharged. I was NPO all day, Sarah came lots of times during the day to check on me and apologized that I couldn't have anything to eat or drink. She was constantly talking to me about other things, asking about my life and children helping me to forget that I couldn't eat. Sarah gave me outstanding service, I never felt like I was a bother to her. I know I wasn't the only patient on that floor but she made me feel like I was.
She showed her commitment to excellence with her positive attitude, and her clinical skills. I was frustrated, very emotional and was crying when she came in to start her shift. Sarah came around the bed and hugged me for what seemed like forever, she comforted me and in a meaningful way - I knew that her hugs and words came from her heart. Sarah wiped my tears and checked to see what time my procedure would be. She explained the procedure to me, made sure I was warm and called for a tech. And with a smile, said "I will be here waiting for you when you come back." Upon returning from MRI she was there waiting with a smile. I asked her if she had heard from the surgeon and she said, "No, but let me go page him and find out." She came back in the room excited and said, "Let's get you ready to go" and she did just that. She said, "I will still be here when you return from surgery, everything will be okay."
After surgery, she was there ready to make sure I was comfortable. The care that Sarah gave me was much more than I ever expected of her. She was a nurse, friend and amazing person. I'm a better person because I was in her care. When it was time to be discharged, it was hard to say goodbye. She explained all my discharge instructions and told me what a pleasure it had been to know me. A little small tear rolled down her face, (she is human and has feelings too). I will never forget her or the care that she gave. I know there are lots of good nurses at WFH, but I feel like Sarah is one of the best.
