While caring for a patient after they underwent spinal fusion, Sarah met the patient’s needs right away, treating her pain and assisting her to a couch in her room while waiting for a new bed. Through this attentive focus, Sarah made the patient feel seen and heard, even suggesting articles of clothing that would increase comfort during her recovery. Sarah also helped the patient get an iPad for use to see the results of her surgery. “She made me feel safe. My pain was managed in a timely manner when she was my nurse. She made sure my husband had everything he needed,” the patient said. “It was the best experience I’ve ever had as a patient. She went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure my husband and I were as comfortable and safe as possible while I was in her care.”
