Sarah McNamee is the perfect candidate for the DAISY Award. Her extraordinary compassion and sensitivity with the recent care of my mother exemplifies her commitment to excellence in nursing care. Sarah cared for my mother before and after her eye surgery. Sarah was gentle in both her physical care as well as her emotional care. She allayed all her fears and stayed and held her hand for hours during her recovery time.

There were many little things that Sarah did. Each time she took vital signs or did any bedside care she explained fully what was going to happen as my mother had a huge eye bandage on that obstructed her vision and has very poor vision in other eye. She changed her ice packs frequently to give her the most pain relief she could have so pain meds were not needed. When it was time to go home Sarah took her time in helping me dressed my mom. She has special needs with shoes and Sarah did not hesitate to get on the ground to put on the shoes that are very hard to get on. She dressed her with great care and with a kind gentle way that portrayed her kind and gentle spirit.

On discharge Sarah not only made sure I had extra ice packs but supplied me with extra wash clothes to absorb any blood dripping from her eyes and nose until we make the long ride home.

I saw Sarah interact with other patients as well as her co-workers that day and I believe she treats everyone with the kind gentle spirit that my mother experienced. I was so proud of all the Regency Day Surgery staff that day but Sarah set the example of nursing excellence at its best. She is an extraordinary nurse.
