I am honored to commend Sarah Middleton for the exceptional care she provided during one of the most challenging experiences I’ve ever had. This was my first time being hospitalized, and what was expected to be a one- or two-day recovery from a myomectomy quickly turned into a six-day ordeal.

After being discharged, I had a medical emergency and was readmitted the very next day. I was overwhelmed, in pain, and unsure of what was happening with my body. From the moment I returned, Sarah made both me and my mom feel safe, seen, and genuinely cared for. My mom stayed with me the entire time, and Sarah consistently extended her compassion and professionalism to both of us. She carries herself with a calm confidence that immediately puts you at ease. Within minutes of entering the room, she would check in, assess what was needed, and follow through quickly. At the same time, she was incredibly thorough, responsive, and attentive, all while mentoring nursing students with patience and intention. I remember her taking a moment to explain not just what to do, but why it mattered, which showed the level of care she brings to developing others. It was clear we were in the hands of someone truly exceptional. The trust Sarah built with me was so strong that I requested her specifically during my second stay. That decision made all the difference.

At one point, I began experiencing severe urinary pain. Despite raising concerns overnight, the issue had not been resolved, and I was starting to feel frustrated and unheard. The pain was constant and sharp, and I remember feeling like something just wasn’t right. When Sarah came on shift, everything changed. Within minutes of hearing my concerns, she looked at me and said, "We’re going to figure this out," and immediately began assessing and asking targeted questions. She didn’t dismiss it as typical post-op pain. Instead, she took ownership, advocated for me with the care team, and ensured the right steps were taken to identify the cause. Shortly after her intervention, the issue was addressed and my pain significantly improved. That moment was a turning point in my recovery. Sarah didn’t just provide excellent clinical care. She made me feel heard, protected, and prioritized at a time when I needed it most. Her ability to combine expertise, urgency, advocacy, and genuine compassion is rare, and it had a lasting impact on both me and my family. Sarah is an extraordinary nurse.

I actually requested Sarah specifically because of the trust she built during that first stretch. During my second stay, I started having significant urinary pain that wasn't related to my actual surgery. The night crew hadn't been able to get it under control, and I was feeling frustrated and unheard. The second Sarah walked in, she took charge. She didn't just brush it off as typical post-op pain; she investigated the cause, advocated for me, and fixed the issue immediately. That was the turning point in my recovery. Sarah is a total professional and a credit to her field, and I am so grateful she was the one looking after us.
