She was not just a nurse in that room; she was a lifeline, and I truly believe I would not have gotten through my labor without her.
I want to nominate Sarah Murray for the DAISY Award for her exceptional care and support during my labor and delivery. From the moment her shift started, Sarah was attentive to my every need, ensuring that I never had to wait for anything. I had to call her to use the bathroom every 5-10 minutes, and she showed up quickly, never making me feel like a burden. When her shift started, I was induced with a balloon pump and started on Pitocin. My labor progressed very quickly. Sarah knew I had planned for natural childbirth without an epidural, and throughout the induction, she was encouraging.

When things got challenging, and the pain intensified, she was there to help me. When I hit transition, and the pain became overwhelming, I felt scared and vulnerable. I asked her to please stay with me because I didn't want to be alone, and without hesitation, she did. My partner was there, but I needed Sarah to assure me that things were okay and that I could do this, because I genuinely didn't think I could. The contractions were so strong and painful. She stayed by my side, providing constant emotional and physical support. Her kindness, compassion, and genuine care made all the difference during one of the most challenging experiences of my life.

When Sarah was going to increase my Pitocin, I begged her not to. I was terrified and exhausted, and I didn't feel ready for the intensity it would bring. I couldn't tolerate it anymore. Sarah listened to my request with respect and compassion. She didn't push me into something I wasn't comfortable with and allowed me to feel like I had control over my experience. As the pain continued and I reached the point of exhaustion, I almost gave up. At this point, it was time to push. Sarah advocated for me when pushing became challenging, which was beginning to upset me. Sarah made sure I had the peace and quiet I needed to focus. Sarah encouraged me, telling me I was doing a good job and almost there. Her words of encouragement are the only reason I could give those last few pushes and get my baby out. I could not have done it without her.

Sarah didn't just provide care; she became a pillar of support, both physically and emotionally. She understood the importance of respecting my birth plan, advocating for my needs, and offering encouragement when I was at my lowest. She was not just a nurse in that room; she was a lifeline, and I truly believe I would not have gotten through my labor without her. The experience of giving birth is intense and overwhelming, but with Sarah's incredible presence, love, and expertise, I was able to navigate it with more strength than I thought possible. She helped me find that strength. Sarah is a perfect example of the impact a nurse can have during one of the most significant moments of a person's life. Her care went beyond professionalism; it was personal, compassionate, and deeply human. For all the reasons above, I am confident she is highly deserving of this recognition.
