I first want to share that I am a registered nurse and I have very high expectations for the people who have chosen nursing as a career. During my husband's recent hospitalization, I met someone who exceeded all of my expectations. The nurse was Sarah Newton, RN.
Sarah exhibits many qualities that combine to make an excellent nurse. She is so intelligent and knowledgeable, but she has many qualities that can't be taught. These qualities of caring and empathy come from within the person.
Sarah was my husband's nurse on his first post-op day. She was so conscientious and worked well with the other disciplines and his care team including the physicians and therapists.
Sarah's empathy for others was evident each time she entered the room. She was very understanding and obviously was aware of our anxiety about his surgery and his health. She was very conscientious and frequently came into the room so he never needed to ring his bell. Her calm and caring personality made for a relaxing and reassuring environment for him and me.
Sarah goes above and beyond the expectations of caring for her patients. She is an excellent role model for new graduates entering the nursing field. UNC Rex is very fortunate to have Sarah.
