Sarah consistently comes in extra when asked and she goes above and beyond her nursery duties. When faced with a problem she tries to find solutions. Sarah has set an example with co-workers by being willing to support family-centered care. She takes time to explain and teach concepts to families. Sarah has embraced new ideas and even went beyond them. She has been open and encouraging and I have witnessed her as a patient advocate. While calm, compassionate and professional, Sarah does an excellent job when filling in as a charge nurse.
Skin-to-skin contact after delivery is a new concept in OB. We have been doing it for a while in vaginal deliveries. I was asking the team to think about ways to make it happen for our C-section moms. I did it a few times myself, but some staff were still resistant. Sarah stepped out there and not only did skin-to-skin in the OR, but she also helped the mother breastfeed. This was something she took on just because she wanted to try something new. The physician, new parents, and everyone else in the room were amazed and thankful for her willingness to allow the family the bonding time.
