I was asked to speak to a pre-cardiac catheterization patient. The patient told me she wanted to talk to me about Sarah Pisarek, her nurse. The patient had a minor delay in her procedural start time that day due to another emergency. The patient told me she was 81 years old and Sarah was the best nurse she ever had. She said that she wanted to let me know that Sarah did a fantastic job and was so very kind and caring. The patient had a support person with her that day and I saw that person stop to thank Sarah for her help that day. After the patient left Sarah told me that this patient had confided to her that the patient's husband was admitted to hospice care on the same day as this patient's procedure. This all had to be so incredibly challenging for her. It's clear to me that Sarah’s care and kindness were especially important for this patient on such a difficult day. It was clear to me that their interaction that day was so very meaningful for the patient and support person.
