Sarah exemplifies nursing excellence. One example of Sarah's commitment to excellence comes in the form of a letter from the mother of one of her patients. The mother writes:

"We met Sarah when P had her Norwood procedure. We were new to the 'heart world' and she taught us so much as she cared for our baby girl after her surgery. She took the extra care to make sure P's legs weren't constantly frogged out, would always make sure we were eating and resting and constantly made us feel safer when she was there. She even taught my husband to change a diaper for the first time. We always felt like she was on top of everything and would advocate for what she felt was best for P. Anytime we are in the hospital we try to visit and she always keeps up with P's story. Sarah's passion for her job is clear to see and her knowledge is so comforting. She takes care of our entire family and makes us feel like we are in great hands no matter how critical the situation. I love that she is always honest with me about my daughter's care and absolutely love how wonderful she is at caring for P."

Sarah's love for nursing extends beyond providing excellent patient care. She also serves as a co-chair of the R & R committee and in this role has proven her commitment to her team. Around the holidays you will see her going the extra mile to decorate the unit. One year she made a giant elf for our front door. We all thought she deserved the Award for that one. Sarah's coworkers know they can count on her to motivate, encourage and jump in to help whenever she is needed. She truly is an asset to our unit and is well deserving of the DAISY Award.
