My 9-month-old son was recently admitted to the Pediatric Unit at MaineGeneral for Pneumonia and Croup and we were very fortunate enough to have the amazing nurses at Maine General. We even had nurses who helped deliver him come in to check on him and me which made me feel at ease and reassured that we would be well taken care of.
Being a mother is no easy as pie job and there can be struggles and hardships for sure. When I was told my 9-month-old son had to be admitted to the hospital, I was a wreck. My poor baby was so sick, I was downright exhausted and hated seeing my baby in pain and now adding a hospital stay to the list of things going on, I was scared, worried, you name it and I was probably feeling it. When we arrived to the Unit, we were greeted with smiles and welcome arms. We had to spend the evening in the hospital and my emotions were full force. The next morning for shift change, I was very fortunate and thankful to be able to have Sarah Quinn as our nurse. From the moment she walked into our room, she was exceptional.
She was there whenever I needed her, she listened to my concerns and didn't make me feel as though I was bothering her or taking up her time, she hugged me while I melted down and cried because I didn't know what was going on with my child, she was the most amazing nurse I know we've ever had.
Her constant smile and bubbly personality made my emotions lighten up and my son adored her.
As a mother, it's comforting knowing you have someone on your team and who also wants the best for your child and will stand beside you when you need them to or when it means the most. I'll never forget how well she took care of us and I'm forever grateful.
My son is now getting back to his wild and crazy self and I owe it to MaineGeneral for helping him get better and for taking such great care of not just him but also myself. As mothers, we sometimes get put on the back burner and all the attention goes to our little ones, but during our stay, I was also very well taken care of and I appreciate that more than anyone may ever know.
Note: This is Sarah's 2nd DAISY Award!
