My husband came to Woodlawn to regain his strength after falling, breaking his ribs, and collapsing his lungs. Sarah was welcoming and took the time to try to understand his wishes. He has aphasia and can only say yes, no, where, and count. She was patient and clearly communicated with him; she created a relationship of trust with him while always making him smile.

That trust that she cultivated was crucial in our decision to leave Woodlawn after eight days to transfer back to Aultman when his oxygen level fell to 70. She noticed he did not seem like himself and urged us to go to Aultman. We did not want to leave Woodlawn. Sarah spoke with the doctor and the charge nurse. They agreed, and Sarah privately shared her concerns and convinced us to take him to Aultman.

Twelve days later, he returned after a thoracotomy for pneumonia and lung collapse again. She made sure he had the same therapy team when he returned by working with his two OT and PT teams. She greeted him with her same welcoming smile and deep concern for his well-being. All of the nurses and aides were great, but Sarah went above and beyond for him.
