My husband and I had checked in on a Monday and had been there on Wednesday morning, still not dilated and feeling really down mentally. I had been given the Cook balloon, which had been placed incorrectly. The insertion was the worst pain I had ever felt, and they told me I might have to do it again.

Sarah came in on that Wednesday morning and helped transform my feelings of hopelessness and fear. She offered pain meds or even to do the epidural if we needed to do the Cook balloon a second time. She turned my spirits back up and gave me solutions that weren’t offered before. Her positivity and motivation gave me the strength and encouragement I needed to get through the rest of my labor without feeling tortured.

I don’t think I would have had a positive experience if it wasn’t for her. I felt like she truly cared and was advocating for me with the doctors. Even though I was barely 1 cm, I was in so much pain that the cervix checks became unbearable. I felt ashamed that I couldn’t handle the pain, but Sarah reassured me that there was no shame in getting an epidural. Once I got it, everything else was smooth sailing.
