April 2026 Honoree
Sarah Savage, RN
Sarah was a former CDU nurse who transferred to the ICU about 5 years ago. She has since returned to the CDU.
After Sarah had her son, she developed post-partum psychosis. She speaks freely of her experience and even speaks at length to educate and support others who have experienced this. There was a new mom (post-partum 4 wks.) that came in for HTN and insomnia. Her OB recently diagnosed her with post-partum psychosis. I rounded on this patient unaware of her situation, and she told me her story and what she was experiencing. I immediately thought of Sarah. I asked the patient if I could share her story with Sarah, and she agreed.
I spoke with Sarah, and she instructed me to provide her contact information to the patient. The following day, Sarah went to the patient's room upstairs and took the time to talk to her about her own experience and provided her with comfort, understanding, resources, and support groups to help her get through this difficult period. She also told the patient she could reach out to her if she wanted.
If you talk to Sarah, work with Sarah, and casually know Sarah, you will never know the difficult road she has walked. She uses her experience to help other new moms who are experiencing similar symptoms. She is a true blessing to the profession, our unit, and this organization.
