Sarah immediately put me at ease with her gentle approach toward my mother.
Sarah deserves this DAISY Award. She gave amazing care to my mother during her admission. I believe Sarah is an ICU nurse (she never told us- we later discovered this), but she "floated" to PCCU. She was assigned to my mother, who is 90 years old and admitted with a hip fracture. I had flown in from Colorado the day before and was tired and stressed out. Sarah immediately put me at ease with her gentle approach toward my mother, her patience in listening to my somewhat confused mom, and demonstrated confidence and a competent approach to the nursing care she delivered as follows: 1. Despite the busyness of the unit, Sarah answered the call light within a few minutes, every time, and acted like my mom was the only patient she had (I know this wasn't true). 2. She never said, "Let me get the aide to take care of that". She just did it. 3. She listened to us. She addressed all of our medication questions and concerns, involving the physicians when necessary. 4. Per my mother and family's request, she had a repeat x-ray done on my mom's hip and called us later at home with the results. She said, "I know you'd want to know, and I wanted to put your minds at ease." Sarah's easy smile, caring approachable demeanor and amazing competence are what every patient and family member needs when faced with a crisis of an unexpected hospitalization.
