Without Sarah's intervention, this person may not have gotten the help they needed or in further danger.
Sarah Stephan is a nurse in CVICU and worked over the weekend. She got off work at 7 pm and noticed she had parked next to the same car she parked next to the day before. On the previous day she did not notice anyone in the car but this time the door was open, and she noticed a lady in the front seat. Sarah stopped to ask if she was okay and check in with her. The person stated that she fine and was only waiting for someone. Sarah noticed that she looked cold. Sarah went to her car and offered her blanket and pillow so she could be comfortable while she waited. Sarah offered to assist her in any way she needed.
The next day Sarah returned to work at 11 am and parked next to the same car to check on the person she spoke to the day before. This time, when Sarah knocked on the door the person did not respond and did not look like they were moving. Sarah quickly called security to ensure that the person got assistance and the help they needed. The person was taken to the ED.
The next day, Sarah found out from security that the person she helped had been actually reported as a missing person in a nearby county the previous week and had been without her medication or contact with family. Without Sarah's intervention, this person may not have gotten the help they needed or in further danger.
Sarah is always looking for ways to help others in the unit as well as the community. She goes above and beyond for her patients she cares for. She helped assist CVICU in donating $500.00 to Chesterfield food bank during the holiday season. She goes out of her way to be kind to others and help them in any way she can. She frequently donates items of her own to those in need. We appreciate Sarah for all the things she does for her patients and in the community. She truly is our hero!
Note: This is Sarah's 2nd DAISY Award!
