The patient dressed up and had as much of a normal experience as possible despite hospitalization. Through Sarah's above-and-beyond empathetic care, the patient was able to attend the memorial service.
A patient was hospitalized within a week of her husband's death. She had been with her husband for over 50 years. Unfortunately, due to the patient's hospitalization and ongoing high oxygen needs, the patient was going to have to miss her husband's memorial service in a nearby town. This is where Sarah Loken stepped in. After hearing this, Sarah contacted respiratory therapy and social work to see if something could be coordinated. Sarah also volunteered to come in on her day off to accompany the patient since the patient needed medical supervision with their high oxygen needs. After Sarah, social work, and respiratory therapy coordinated a plan, the family was in tears with happiness. This was a day that could not be replaced. Sarah did end up accompanying the patient to the memorial service. The patient dressed up and had as much of a normal experience as possible despite hospitalization. Through Sarah's above-and-beyond empathetic care, the patient was able to attend the memorial service. This is an irreplaceable experience the patient and family will never forget.
