September 2023 Honoree
Sarah Toney, BSN, SCRN
My best friend was admitted to Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit. After a day of devastating news, she was ultimately declared brain dead. Sarah was with us throughout it and there are truly no words to encompass the gift she gave us. Her compassion, empathy, humor, relatability, and advice carried us through what is undoubtedly going to be one of the hardest times in our lives. She exuded a light that led us through all the turmoil that comes with the limbo of organ donation. She held open the figurative and literal revolving door of visitors. She gave us patience when not everyone acted with grace. For me personally, she made this whole process ok, which is a sentence that even typing it, seems unfathomable. She even picked up overtime on her day off to see us through to the end. We cannot thank you enough for the everlasting impact you’ve made on so many of us. Keep doing what you’re doing.
Thank you, Sarah, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
