I am from the Philippines and I have been in the USA for just over three months and married my husband here. Recently, my husband had to carry me into the emergency room because my muscles stopped working and I couldn't walk or sit up. Long story short, my kidneys are defective and don't keep my potassium. This required many IV's and blood draws. I am terrified of needles and it hurts so badly to get a needle in my arm. Sarah saw how scared of the blood draws I was. It was every four hours and the IV needles being put in different spots made me shake and cry. She helped me so much by having a good idea. Sarah gave me Lidocaine in the spot that the big needle would go so it didn't hurt so badly. This made such a difference to me because when I was in the Philippines, they just kept poking me with needles and I was so scared, but she made it so much better for me. She is so caring every time; she massages my hand for my aches, and gives me a hot press bag to put on my arm first. She has a calm voice to wake me up every time I need to take my pills. Thank you!

My wife was a patient and I spent every day with her for the five days she was in the hospital. Sarah demonstrated such compassion to come up with the solution to the pain of the blood draws by first administering a small subdural shot of Lidocaine. She also had sincere empathy and held my wife's hand and reassured her. I am grateful that my wife was in her department. She acted as a close friend toward my wife and even massaged her sore hand (from the blood draws taken from her hand). I am just grateful for her love, kindness, and gentleness she demonstrated to my wife. She took what could have continued as a terrifying situation for my wife and made my dear wife so much more comfortable that she even stopped shedding a tear or two when her blood was taken. She was kind to me as well and all my requests for my wife, never once appearing too busy to help or listen with her full attention. Sarah is the most compassionate nurse that I have ever seen and she is very deserving of the DAISY Award.
