Sarah is absolutely a role model for her team. She exemplifies excellence in interpersonal interactions and is always smiling and bubbly with her team, her patients, and her co-workers. Sarah is never negative - always trying to see the positive side of any situation.
Sarah has excelled at building a great environment for her team. Her NDNQI results are exceptional and her team was in the top 10% nationally in many areas. Her Press Ganey readiness is at an 87 and her Manager Domain is up 0.63 over last year and 0.10 over the hospital average. She rounds on her team daily and makes a point of interacting personally with every staff member. When she hands out the coveted Thanksgiving gift cards, she greets every staff member with a personalized message of thanks, telling each one of them why she is thankful for them as an individual. She has implemented multiple team building activities on her units that are all fiscally neutral, including handing out post-its so that her team could write up nice thoughts about her peers, and many others.
Sarah pushes her team to get better. She has achieved her NE-BC (Nurse Executive-Board Certification) certification this year. She has worked with Ed/Dev to develop a method of registration for advanced certifications that is more financially appealing to staff. This has dramatically increased interest among her team in obtaining their advanced certification. In fact, several staff members have developed a study group and are in final preparations for the exam. Sarah is currently working on rolling DSR (Daily Status Report) out to her leadership team and helping them better anticipate the needs of the day and work on problem-solving early to avoid putting out fires.
Sarah is working on completing her first research project on the Quadruple Aim theory and how it applies to nursing satisfaction on her unit. She is partnering with a SON researcher on this and they plan on publishing it and also has submitted it for a podium presentation at Magnet. In addition, she has presented this concept at the most recent KCANE (Kansas City Area Nurse Executives) meeting. Sarah has attended special workshops on leadership provided by the American Nurses Association with a focus on organization and time management and she has brought key concepts back to her nurse manager peers. As a result, several of her peers have implemented these suggestions in their daily workflows and many others are attending the conference as well.
