Sarah Watkins is a different type of leader. She isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty and work elbow-to-elbow with her team. She believes in mentoring her staff so that they can be the best that they can be. She learns about their goals and does everything in her power to help them accomplish them, even if it does not directly benefit her or her department. She values her teammates' success over making her job easy. She is constantly challenging her team to see things from a patient's or family member's perspective. By doing this she ensures that compassion is a top priority and characteristic in her department. She shows the same compassion and consideration for her patients when she takes an assignment on the floor, which she does often as she values patient care, present leadership, and lives by the motto ‘I will never ask one of my staff to do something I wouldn’t do myself’ Sarah is the definition of advocating for her team. When gaps in knowledge or practice are identified in her department, she is quick to ask, ‘How were they educated on this?’. She tackles education and offers resources for her team with dedication and attention to detail. She is constantly heard saying ‘Let’s set them up for success’. The staff has been known to pick up extra shifts when they find that she is working as charge because of her leadership and the wonderful environment that she creates with her team. “
