We felt like Sarah was treating her as if she was taking care of a close family member.
My wife was admitted after suffering multiple broken ribs and a punctured lung from a fall. First, we would like to thank all the nurses, doctors, and staff who were part of her care team. Everyone we interacted with was very professional and provided excellent care. The new hospital is amazing and the residents living in the area are extremely fortunate to have it. There was one nurse whose level of service compelled us to nominate her for the DAISY Award, Sarah Wetzel. Sarah was very thorough each time checking on her dressings and paying attention to even the smallest of details which made both of us confident that we were in great hands. My wife described Sarah’s beside manner as sweet and caring. We felt like Sarah was treating her as if she was taking care of a close family member.

While the doctor was preparing to remove the tube that had been inserted in my wife’s rib area to help reinflate her lung, Sarah offered to let her hold her hand if it would help. This not only helped to elevate her arm out of the way but also was just another act of kindness that came at the perfect time.

Sarah went above and beyond to help my wife get released. Most of the pharmacies in the area were closed and our family physician did not want to sign the discharge order unless a prescription could be filled for pain management. Two pharmacies were identified and the prescription was called in. I made the trip only to find that the first pharmacy was out of the prescribed drug. I got in touch with my wife and Sarah happened to be in the room. I planned to get ahold of our physician to see if he could contact the only other pharmacy in the area that was open. Sarah jumped in and told me to sit tight while she saw what could be done. She took it upon herself to call the other pharmacy and found out that despite being shown as open they were closed. Sarah then contacted our physician who called the first pharmacy, and they came up with another pain management solution. All of this was done very quickly with the clock ticking on whether a discharge would happen. While this might not seem like a big deal to some it was very important to us because it allowed my wife to be discharged and home with family.

Sarah took her downstairs for our drive home. Despite being in pain, my wife wanted to give Sarah a hug as she was being loaded into the car. A heartfelt thank you again to all of those who helped my wife during her stay with a special thank you to Sarah!
