My patient, who was recently admitted to 3F, not only came with a lot of medical equipment, but she also came with a demanding yet not-so-pleasant spirit about her. Needless to say, the patient's daughter left her bedside with tears streaming down her face as she gasped for air to breathe. The family member could barely walk.

Sarai and Michelle immediately stepped in to assist the family member with whatever she needed in that moment. I saw Sarai and Michelle speak to the family member in a melodic tone, with deep passion, for someone who was hurting. Sarai and Michelle gathered items such as Kleenex and bottled water to help soothe the family member and allow her to express her pain.

The family member continued to cry and express frustration with what she had been dealing with for a long time. Sarai and Michelle stood there with her the entire time.

The family member wiped her face as she stood up. She said, "Thank you, I feel better now." Sarai told the family member, "I'm happy that you feel better, but I want you to take a deep breath before you drive because we care about you."

This is the kind of nursing that everyone should model. The kind where others' needs come before our own, even in difficult circumstances. I salute you, Sarai and Michelle.

Thank you, Sarai, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
