Sarai Lerma is frequently recognized by her patients, student peers and faculty for her kindness, compassion and willingness to assist others. Sarai is recognized by a patient and their family for her willingness to assist in communication and her accountability in assuring all concerns of the patient and family were addressed and questions answered. The patient had limited understanding of English and Sarai supported the patient and family with her ability to communicate in Spanish. Sarai assured that the patient had complete understanding of the healthcare plan and visited frequently to provide support to the patient and their family, as well as communicate to hospital staff of potential concerns. Sarai was also recognized by student peers for her willingness to assist others in mastery of lab skills or in helping to provide understanding with class content. Underclassmen recognized Sarai for her kindness and encouragement during stressful times and for providing direction during challenging schedule management.  Sarai was recognized by faculty for her compassion for helping others and always maintaining her integrity and calming demeanor during periods of high stress.
