Her ability to provide such personalized, compassionate care in the midst of overwhelming circumstances was truly astounding.
I would like to nominate an exceptional ER nurse. This was our second interaction with Nurse John, as she cared for my husband on two separate ER visits. Both times, her energy was incredible, but the second encounter was especially memorable. My husband was in the ER for ACE inhibitor–induced angioedema and was placed in the critical care ER. During the nearly 10 hours we were there before he was transferred upstairs, Nurse John was managing a wide range of patients.
We witnessed her handle agitated and combative patients, trauma cases, and distressed families—all while navigating what felt like nonstop chaos. At times, it almost looked like a comedy skit from the outside, but we know this is the harsh and demanding reality of the emergency department.
Yet every single time Nurse John came in to care for my husband, it was as if a light switch flipped. She was bubbly, positive, and fully present, making us feel like we were her only patients. Her ability to provide such personalized, compassionate care in the midst of overwhelming circumstances was truly astounding.
One moment that truly stood out was her advocacy for my husband to be cleared to have a meal. While this was likely one of the least critical items on her long list of responsibilities, it meant so much to us. That small act of advocacy brought comfort, dignity, and a sense of normalcy during a very frightening time.
To top it off, Nurse John stayed well past her shift to continue supporting her team. That level of dedication speaks volumes about her character and professionalism.
Nurse John wholeheartedly deserves a DAISY Award. You should be incredibly proud to have her on your team, and we feel extremely lucky to have been under her care.
