Over 100 patients, carers, and staff attended the event.  There are so many positive comments from patients and their carers about such an unforgettable event.
Recently, Harlow Renal Dialysis Unit celebrated its most astounding and auspicious garden party. It was a nice and sunny day well attended by our lovely patients and assiduous staff.  Food was great and I can say without a doubt that everybody enjoyed the fabulous summer garden party.  But to make it a successful event there is a person who was working tirelessly, beside her own busy schedule of duties in order to enhance a holistic patient and staff interaction and thereby to promote healthy environment in our work place.  This person is nobody else but sister Saro Sajeev who is our nurse team manager of Harlow renal unit.

She was preparing for the party for the last 3 months. Contacted several parties such as the Steel band, face painting, photographer, contacting Lister Area Kidney Patients Association (LAKPA) for funding, going around and asking patients, carers their families about their availability and requesting them to attend this event. Invited everyone including the CEO and the Trust chair of the Trust.  Risk assessment for the garden was necessary. She spoke to the Princess Alexandra Hospital to get permission for the ground and also to the security, Estates, Domestic, and Health & Safety departments. Organising marquee, chairs and tables, and decorations etc.

Shopping all day on the day before the event for the food, cutlery, drinks, raffle prizes, thank you cards, ignoring her duties as a mother for the family.

Over 100 patients, carers, and staff attended the event.  There are so many positive comments from patients and their carers about such an unforgettable event. Photos will be printed from the day's event, and an album will be made available for the patients to see when they come into the unit three times a week for their treatment. This is because lots of patients are in their last years of their life and this album will serve a flash back of sweet memories.

Harlow Steel Band comments, ''It was a welcoming, heart touching and unforgettable event for them'' because they managed to perform in front of patients with Kidney failure and severe learning difficulties, history of seizures, mobility issues. Post transplant and home dialysis patients, were also invited to event.

Sister Saro was the first one to arrive in the unit on that day of the party and was the last one to leave, making sure everyone had gone home safely after the party, and the department was ready to receive patients for their dialysis on next morning.

One of our patient's granddaughter was in the steel band performing on the day; however, her nan was admitted to Lister Hospital, Stevenage. Sister Saro had asked the renal consultant, matron, and the team leader of the day if they could send the patient for a couple of hours to watch the performance of her daughter and granddaughter. However, the patient was too unwell to travel, and the consultant wasn't happy. Sister Saro then took videos of the performance with the band and her whole staff, as requested by the patient and her daughter, and sent them to the nurse working in ward 6 on WhatsApp and requested to show them to the patient. The patient was in tears with happiness and very glad when she saw the videos. A happy heart does good like medicine; a joyful, positive outlook is beneficial to a patient’s health.

There is more to add but I believe this will suffice to indicate her dedication to excellence in order to bring about comprehensive care which tries to treat someone as mind and body, instead of treating only the part of the patient that is sick. I, therefore, nominate her for the DAISY award as I believe she has gone above and beyond her role.
