Satrina taught me the valuable lessons of internal customer service by ensuring we crossed all our T’s and dotted our I’s with pathology and laboratory services.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Satrina since pre-COVID. Satrina called me for a clinical nurse position with a new Endocrinology clinic. She was so personable that I could feel her warmth and sincerity within minutes of this call. While under her leadership with Endocrinology, she encouraged interdisciplinary collaboration between nursing and medicine. Our medical chief and I conducted research that was present at the national and international levels with her support and guidance.
When our chief wanted to bring additional services to our clinic, Satrina taught me the valuable lessons of internal customer service by ensuring we crossed all our T’s and dotted our I’s with pathology and laboratory services. It was under Satrina’s leadership that I received the DAISY Award in the summer of 2020 and advanced on the plan from clinical nurse to nurse scholar. It wasn’t until my matriculation into nurse leadership last year that I fully appreciated Satrina’s leadership by example and guidance. She agreed to be my mentor for my new role in nursing leadership. I have cried in her office, where she offered understanding and sage advice.
During our one-on-ones, I have attentively written down her counseling in my journal and often reflect on it. I appreciated her, but I didn’t realize how much until recently. I messaged her requesting a meeting for the following day. Satrina responded with a, "Let’s chat now." During our conversation, she asked me to hold briefly. I could hear Satrina speaking warmly to her mother and asking a nurse for assistance. Then Satrina, with the same warmth in her voice, returned to me and said, “I am so glad we could talk today, as today is my birthday!” Here she was at her mother’s bedside on her birthday, consoling me! I felt honored and humbled at the same time. That selfless giving to other nurses is why I wholeheartedly endorse Satrina Hill for the DAISY Award! Thank you.
