Savannah Jeffries, RN, Staff Nurse in the Emergency Suite, received a DAISY Award for going above and beyond in helping a patient locate his lost belongings. Savannah was working in the University Hospital Emergency Department triage area when a patient came in toward the end of her shift and said he lost a folder containing his personal documents and cash. The patient had driven two hours to come back to the hospital to look for the folder. Savannah stayed more than an hour past her shift to assist the patient. She checked with several floors to try to locate the folder. After much persistence, she was able to work with her colleagues to find the missing folder. “Furthermore, he stated his wallet and ID were lost in the accident,” the nomination read. “Once she verified the wallet had not been documented as part of the possessions, she had the Highway Patrol contact who had worked the accident site. Indeed, the Highway Patrol had the patient’s wallet and was able to return his contents to him.”
