Thank you, Savannah, for your compassion, caring, and kindness to my father and all of us during the time we spent in the Emergency Department.
I recognized Savannah because she cared for Daddy two years ago when he had a stroke. I mentioned to her that she had taken care of him before, and she said that she thought she recognized him. She told me she was just a "baby nurse" back then. At any rate, she was amazing and incredibly compassionate, and as stated below, we will be forever grateful.

My father was battling an aggressive recurrence of lymphoma and was transferred to the Emergency Department at Piedmont Newton Hospital late in the day on Sunday afternoon. He had been in and out of the hospital twice since early June, and although we had hoped that the immunotherapy, he was receiving would extend his time with us, it was becoming obvious that his body was too weak to continue fighting. Savannah showed immense compassion to my father and my family even amidst the high patient census in the department. She provided comfort measures to my father and administered his pain medication as quickly as she safely could, given his condition.

Unfortunately, we had to make the difficult decision to transition my father to a hospice facility as soon as possible. Savannah spoke with her charge nurse to allow his grandchildren to come in to see him since we were not certain how much longer he could last. It was during this time that we last saw lucid moments as he would hear his daughter's and grandchildren's voices as they expressed their love and gratitude to him for being the best daddy and granddaddy in the world.

Savannah came back to the room at the end of her shift to tell us that she would be praying for him and all of us. Daddy was transferred later in the evening to an inpatient facility and passed away peacefully the next morning, surrounded by those who loved him the most. Thank you, Savannah, for your compassion, caring, and kindness to my father and all of us during the time we spent in the Emergency Department. You were amazing, and we will be forever grateful.
