Savannah had a patient who had been made comfort measures and knew that end of life was near for him. Savannah knew his wife because they were former coworkers before Savannah became a nurse. The wife is an amputee and has difficulty getting around and had no mode of transportation to get here that day. Savannah knew that she wanted to be there with her husband and, more importantly, she knew that she did not want her patient to die alone with no family present. Savannah, being the selfless person she is, took her lunch break and went to pick up the wife to bring her back to the hospital to be with him while he passed away. After his passing, Savannah took the wife back home. As nurses, we often realize that caring for the family is as equally important as caring for the patient. Thank you, Savannah, for going above and beyond and giving this wife precious moments with her husband that she otherwise would not have received.
