My dad and Sawyer bonded during 2 am conversations and realized just how much they had in common–they even had the same favorite Greek meal in common. He made my dad feel like an actual person, not just a patient or number.
There aren’t really words adequate enough to describe how wonderful this nurse was while caring for my dad. My dad spent a total of 28 days in Research Medical Center, the majority of those being on this unit. We were lucky enough to have the nurse as my dad’s night nurse for about 10 days. I’m not sure where to really start when trying to explain just how much this nurse meant to our family, but knowing he was there at night to watch over and care for my dad was so comforting and helped us to feel better about going home to get some rest.

You could tell from the first time meeting him during shift change, that he truly cared about his patients – not just on a medical level, but on a personal level. He took the time to listen to our concerns, answer questions, and explain what he was doing and why. He never once promised something to my dad and didn’t come through with it. He made sure my dad had his coffee every morning and night with 4 sugars, exactly how he liked it. I spent almost every evening with my dad, and when this nurse was caring for him, we always had great conversations about life, family, and everything. My dad and Sawyer bonded during 2 am conversations and realized just how much they had in common – they both even had the same favorite Greek meal in common. He made my dad feel like an actual person, not just a patient or number. It’s hard not to tear up while writing this because my dad was eventually discharged home on hospice.

I can’t help but remember our last night with this nurse before Dad was discharged. We were all kind of quiet, and I could tell that he was sad to see Dad go, but happy that he would be returning home where he wanted to be most. I could barely make it through thanking him for taking care of my dad, but was able to tell him how much of a blessing he was to my dad and our whole family.

You CANNOT put a price on the care and comfort he gave us in some of our darkest days. I have forever been impacted by this nurse in the most positive way. You have a good one there at RMC and I hope he knows just how close we hold him to our hearts.
