Schuyler Kubiak

One of our young patients had to spend their birthday in the emergency department instead of celebrating at home. Recognizing how disappointing that must have been, Schuyler went above and beyond to make the day special. They decorated the ER room and even the ambulance when the child was leaving the hospital, creating a birthday celebration in the middle of a stressful situation. What could have been a sad day became a moment of joy. The child lit up when they saw the decorations, and the family was deeply touched by the thoughtfulness and care shown. Schuyler demonstrated that nursing is about more than medical treatment; it is also about compassion, empathy, and making patients feel valued. Their kindness, creativity, and willingness to go the extra mile truly embody the spirit of the DAISY Award.
