One of the greatest things Schyler did was release his hand from the restraint so he could write “I love you” on a whiteboard for me. She sensed his agitation and urgency to access materials. I believe to write this last message.
I met Schyler from the CVICU as she was taking care of my husband on Christmas Day. My husband had a cardiac procedure, and we had hoped to be home for Christmas. Instead, we were facing the grim reality of M's imminent passing. Schyler has not been scheduled to work on Christmas but called them to see if help was needed. She was our Christmas angel for that 12 hour shift. Schyler helped keep me calm and suggested I recline and rest, and that she would take care of my husband, and that she did, even though he was intubated, she focused not only on his physical needs by keeping his list, but also supporting him emotionally by talking to him. One of the greatest things Schyler did was release his hand from the restraint so he could write “I love you” on a whiteboard for me. She sensed his agitation and urgency to access materials. I believe to write this last message. She did this as her shift was over and the new staff was transitioning in. I will forever be grateful for her kindness and compassion.
