March 2018 Honoree
scott bridges, RN
A patient that was recently admitted to the MICU had a chem-port that drew back fluid which was not blood. Scott Bridges and Alexis Cullen reached out to another unit which ensured them it was probably okay. However, they did not feel comfortable using it, so they got other peripheral access. They brought their concerns to my attention and we investigated further to find out this chem-port had been placed in the pleural space. It had been used for quite some time. Rather than continue using this port inappropriately as many may have already done, they took time to involve me and investigate further to help this patient. They may have prevented much further morbidity and even mortality with their actions.
Thank you, Scott, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
