I am honored to recognize Scott Rucker for his exceptional dedication and compassion in patient care. When faced with a situation where Radiology’s 6-year-old pediatric patient’s family could not afford critical, life-saving medication, Scott went above and beyond to ensure the child received the treatment they desperately needed.

When the child did not arrive for his monthly infusion appointment, Scott immediately called the child's mother. This child has a rare disorder, and without his infusion, he will have muscle and heart damage and potential death. When Scott realized the patient's Medicaid was no longer active, he helped the mother to understand she needed to re-file and explained the next steps.

He notified the child's pediatrician and then registration. During his investigation, he realized the mother had received a $20,000.00 bill and was too nervous to return for the infusion. He initiated an investigation with patient accounts to assist with prior bills charged and a medical review to help the patient continue treatment during the Medicaid reinstatement process.

His relentless advocacy, resourcefulness, and unwavering commitment to patient well-being embody the true spirit of nursing. Because of his efforts, a child’s life was saved, and a family was given hope. Scott exemplifies what it means to be a nurse, and their impact on this family will be felt forever.
