The practice of holistic nursing requires nurses to integrate self-care, self-responsibility, spirituality, and reflection in their lives. This may lead the nurse to greater awareness of the interconnectedness with self, others, nature, and God. This awareness may further enhance the nurse's understanding of all individuals and their relationships to the human and global community, and permits nurses to use this awareness to facilitate the healing process.

Nurses are taught that the healing process involves more than just the physical, biological aspect. Scott Williamson very clearly demonstrated the practice of incorporating more than just the physical person in their care.

Let me just share their story with you:

We were bringing in a late teen early twenty something patient into the OR. She was visibly shaking a bit and verbalized she was scared and nervous. She asked if we could pray. We all said yes and became quiet so she could pray; however, she looked up at us and said 'I have never prayed before', Scott leaned over and in her ear and said 'I'll pray with you'. He then proceeded with a beautiful prayer in a soft comforting voice, it seemed to make the patient feel better and it made me feel good too, working beside someone who could make a very overwhelming situation be better. In a world filled with turmoil it was wonderful to see compassion".

Additional Story:

Scott Williamson shows compassion towards all of his patients every day every time, I have witnessed him ease a patients mind of being nervous about the surgery, taking time to pray with patients. One patient was very tearful, so without thinking twice Scott took her hand and said a prayer before giving her medicine to fall asleep. He is without a doubt a wonderful caregiver and goes above and beyond for all of his patients. He is outstanding.
