January 2026 Honoree
Selena Taylor, RN
I would like to nominate this nurse for The DAISY Award for consistently demonstrating exceptional clinical skill, compassion, and leadership that have profoundly impacted both patients and coworkers. Whether at the bedside or serving as a relief charge nurse, this nurse elevates the standard of care in every situation, and their unwavering presence during some of the most critical pediatric emergencies truly stands out. There have been multiple occasions in high-stress scenarios with children who were actively seizing—overwhelming for everyone involved: staff, families, and especially the child. Each time, without hesitation, this nurse steps in with the perfect balance of calmness, competence, and urgency. There is an incredible ability to ground the entire room. Their voice is steady, instructions are clear, and the approach is methodical yet gentle. Observing this work during emergencies is like watching someone step fully into their purpose.
This nurse anticipates needs before anyone even speaks them. Whether it’s ensuring airway support is ready, prepping medications with speed and accuracy, or coaching newer nurses through the steps, everything is done while maintaining an environment that feels controlled and safe. Families terrified in these moments are comforted by that presence. You take time to kneel beside them, explain what is happening, answer questions, and reassure them that their child is in capable hands. The empathy is genuine, and you can feel it.
As a charge nurse, even in a relief role, leadership is strong but approachable. Advocacy for safe assignments is fierce; the team is supported without judgment, and difficult situations are handled with professionalism and grace. There is never hesitation to jump in when someone is struggling, and it’s always done without making anyone feel inadequate. This is the type of leader who makes the unit stronger simply by being there.
What makes this nurse truly extraordinary is carrying all this responsibility without ever losing kindness. Coworkers are checked in on after difficult shifts, successes are celebrated, and a culture is created where teamwork and mutual respect thrive. This is the type of nurse who inspires others—not by demanding excellence, but by modeling it effortlessly.
In every way, this nurse reflects the core values of nursing: compassion, skill, integrity, and advocacy. Full presence is given to patients, the team, and the mission of providing safe and exceptional care. I am a better nurse because of this guidance, support, and example. Our patients are safer because of this presence. And our unit is stronger because of this leadership. For these reasons, and for countless quiet acts of kindness and competence that often go unseen by those closest to the work, I wholeheartedly nominate this nurse for The DAISY Award. This individual embodies the spirit of nursing, and I feel truly honored to work alongside them.
