She pulled up a chair and sat next to me, and kept me calm and just talked to me, distracted me as much as she could from the pain.
Serena is the sweetest nurse I have ever met. I came into the emergency room crying and in an excruciating amount of pain. Serena asked me the normal questions, but when I answered, she actually heard me. She made sure I was completely comfortable, made me feel understood, and made me feel like I was making the correct decision in coming into the emergency room (which I was so scared about). She constantly checked on me and was very honest with me. Serena made me feel seen and heard. When I was crying and afraid, I was going through another ectopic pregnancy, and I told her I was afraid to be alone since my husband hadn’t arrived yet. She pulled up a chair and sat next to me, and kept me calm and just talked to me, distracted me as much as she could from the pain. After all the testing, she made sure I had clear instructions for at-home care, and since I was on some pain medication, she made sure to write down clear instructions for me so I wouldn't forget. Serena is the nicest, sweetest nurse I have ever met, and I have seen a lot of medical staff, unfortunately. She is so knowledgeable, caring about her patients, and really makes you feel like the number one priority. I completely and fully trusted her with my care and will always trust her if I ever have her as my nurse again. I wish I could have her as my nurse every time.

I began my day at a walk-in clinic. I was going in for stomach problems and a possible sinus infection. I had such a terrible experience there. The nurse and the provider were both rude to me. I was given an antibiotic that was not the best option. I was having an allergic reaction to the medicine, and it was causing a rash and puffiness to my face. When I called back, they told me that they could not do anything for me and I had to go to the ER. I decided to go to the ER in Plover. Upon my arrival, the front desk people were very nice and got me back into a room in less than 5 minutes. When I was brought to my room, that's when I met my new favorite nurse, Serena. She was amazing!! More than words can describe. She listened to my concerns. My mom was not there at this point, and Serena's shift was coming to an end. She could tell I was scared and did not want to be alone. She said that she would stay with me until my mother arrived. You could tell that she was one of those nurses who cared for her patients and would go to great lengths to help them, no matter what. She stayed until my mom arrived and even stayed a little longer to catch my mom up on what was happening. Serena was a nurse who would do anything for her patients, and this is why she deserves a DAISY Award.

Serena is so amazing, explaining everything in a way that I don’t feel judged, but I feel seen and heard. I completely understand all the medication. I feel she deserves an award, a trophy, a raise, and recognition for all that she does for everyone. Thank you for your time, care, and compassion. Stevens Point is blessed to be gifted with you!
