I can’t thank Shaela enough for being everything the DAISY Award stands for.
Although Shaela is so much more than this one snapshot of what an excellent nurse she is, it changed my daughter's outcome during her last stay in the hospital. My daughter is admitted frequently for pancreatitis, septic pancreatitis, and elevated liver enzymes ever since she had Whipple Surgery in 2018. The love and selflessness Shaela shows my daughter when admitted to SMJH is felt by her and means the world to both my daughter and me.
On her last admission to Cornell 3, Shaela stopped by to see my daughter later in the day; being familiar with her and her care, Shaela worked with the primary nurse to ensure she received what she needed while maintaining a working relationship and teamwork between her and her peer. Her empathy for the situation and compassion for nursing care stands out with her quick action.
My daughter began to feel better about an hour later after feeling so ill all day long. I understand this is just an administration of IV fluids, but it made a difference in my daughter’s well-being and I can’t thank Shaela enough for being everything the DAISY Award stands for. Thank you for being an excellent nurse and being so kind and loving to my daughter!
