January 2021 Honoree
Shaina L Bugayong, BSN
If you start at the bottom, can you really make it to the top? As actress Audrey Hepburn said, “Nothing is impossible, the word itself says, I’m possible!” CRN Shaina started as Staff Nurse 3 and did that job for two years. A risk taker and does not mind taking on tough assignments, she is patient, caring, and kind to everyone; when her Clinical Director saw her potential, she was later recommended to be one of the Clinical Resource Nurses of the Operating Theater. She is knowledgeable about her job and easy to approach, has strong communication skills, and listens well.
One time I was having a hard time with my presentation for a short lecture. I approached her, she was really busy with some paper works that time, but she did not hesitate to help me and teach me, she even encouraged me to make my presentation in an artistic way. By her encouraging me I have become more confident in myself. Asking questions, staying curious, learning, and mastering the task at hand are what really counts. As she would always say curiosity and mastery are inseparable, humility, empathy, and mindfulness are essential. Seeing her respected and loved by her staff, consistent, fair, and compassionate she is rewarded by their success in learning. We are so lucky to have her in our operating theater as a nurse educator.

Thank you, Shaina L, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
