I came into the ER experiencing a miscarriage. In a fast-paced environment like the ER, it is easy to feel like just another patient, but Shalane made me feel seen and cared for. She was incredibly patient and gentle during a time when I felt physically and emotionally vulnerable. She cared for my physical dignity without hesitation. Helping me clean the blood dripping from my legs and helped me change into underwear and a pad as I felt numb from what I had just experienced. Shalane didn’t just help treat my symptoms; she held space for my grief. She represents the very best of nursing. I will never forget that day, and I will never forget her.
