Shams is a charge nurse for a busy PACU in our Heart and Vascular Institute. She exemplifies true dedication to her peers, the surgery team and to the patients and families. One extremely busy surgery day, Shams was called upon to assist a patient's family member who had disabilities and could not care for himself. She brought him to a private room and assisted the family member with activities of daily living, provided him with clean scrubs, and offered him food and water. This family member is normally cared for by the patient, and for obvious reasons the patient was not available to fulfill these duties. Shams and her peers did not hesitate to assist the family member in need.
