Shane provides extraordinary leadership and consistently goes above and beyond to support MUSC Health and his team. He manages PICC and Midline placement as needed for our patients. He teaches and advocates the nuances of nursing care within the departments he leads and in multidisciplinary settings. His unique approach to teaching, with self-deprecating humor, kindness, and compassion, is excellent and effective.

Shane is an advocate of community service and giving back to the community whenever possible. He leads the MUSC team for the American Heart Association Heart Walk each year to support community efforts and fundraising for AHA to fight and eliminate heart disease and stroke to save more lives in the Midlands. He coordinates a successful MUSC Health Kershaw team, recruits coaches and walkers, and encourages participation in other areas of the event. His leadership helps to rally, inspire, and unify coaches and teams so that funds raised by MUSC will impact and save lives. He is a relentless force to support longer, healthier lives through the support of the AHA.

Shane is an outstanding nurse!  His dedication to quality patient care, nursing support, and team-building approach is without equal.  He projects our mission and vision every day – changing what’s possible –  and is the perfect example of a DAISY Nurse. He is accessible, available, and responsive to the needs of others, encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving for individuals and in the context of teams. Shane serves as a role model for compassion and exemplary practice and creates an environment that fosters care and compassion and supports an environment where attributes of trust,  mutual respect, continued professional development, and ethical behavior are modeled and supported.

Pulmonologist Physician quote:
“We did many new things, acquired new equipment and services, and none of them would have happened if it wasn't for Shane and his efforts.  He is always ready to be the first to step in and raise his sleeves to work. Well deserved!”

Hospitalist Medical Director quote:
“I want to commend and recognize Shane Barrett for his dedication to MUSC Kershaw and our patients. He performs all his many duties (vascular access with PICC/midline placement, running RT department, cath lab, cardiology) graciously. The physicians and I appreciate his dedication immensely. Shane works tirelessly to support our hospital and provide quality/compassionate care to our patients. He is instrumental in educating our nursing staff to allow us to continue to offer local vascular access services to our patients; this not only benefits our patients but also broadens the skill sets of our care team members. He responds promptly to whatever needs arise in all his different roles. I am honored to work with Shane, and this recognition is well-deserved. Shane embodies the motto, 'changing what's possible'”.
