During Shane's morning assessment, he auscultated the patient and identified sounds consistent with sub-g emphysema. He immediately brought it to my attention. Chest x-ray showed pneumothorax and pneumomediastinum and sub-g air. Without his astute observation, I would have seen the patient at end of my rounds after ICU rounding. He prevented at least one morbidity.
