We joked that Shane had made the Christmas card list, and by the end of her stay, we were debating if he should be in our family Christmas picture.
My mom was moved to a different floor on day 5 of a long stay. She was hoping to go home, so moving to a new floor, a new room, was not what she had in mind. Shane was her nurse for many shifts, and we were all sad that he wasn't with us. Shane made my mom as comfortable as possible, coaxed her to do things the doctors couldn't even get her to do, spoke to her with kindness and compassion even when she was trying to be difficult, and gained my mom’s trust in a matter of hours. She didn't want anyone else to try to move her, only Shane. He was so gentle and made her feel like she was the only patient (even though we all know there were several others). When Shane got Mom taken care of, he always asked if I or my dad needed anything. All of the nurses were good, but he went above and beyond. The nurses and CNA staff carry this facility. Changing floor doctors weekly was a challenge, but we could always look forward to crossing our fingers that we would have Shane. He was the BEST!! We joked that Shane had made the Christmas card list, and by the end of her stay, we were debating if he should be in our family Christmas picture. Shane always followed through with everything we requested, and we tried not to be a pain, but it's hard when you don't have the codes to get ice and things like that. He was always smiling and upbeat, even when we could hear all the bells and whistles going off down the hall. Cool under pressure is an understatement. Your hospital is so lucky to have Shane. I will never forget his kindness to my mom, who can be a bit spicy at times. I will always remember Shane reassuring me it would be ok when she wasn't having the best of days. He is perfect for this field of work, and I don't know what you pay your nurses, but he is worth every penny and more. I can't say enough good things about him. I was there most of the days my mom was a patient, as was my dad nearly every day. Even my grumpy old dad loved Shane!
